April 

- April 8, total solar eclipse with Clarkson yard in the middle of its path

March

- BIOsem group traveled to New Orleans to attend the ACS Spring Meeting. Eight oral presentations and one posted were presented. Congratulations guys. Great job! 

February

- On February 23rd, Reem Khan successfully defended her PhD thesis: "Nanotechnology-based approaches for electrochemical detection of contaminants of emerging concern".  Congratulation Dr Khan!


2023

October

- Dr. Silvana Andreescu and Dr. Stefan Grimberg have been awarded a  grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for their research project “Nanoadsorbents for Phosphate Capture and Recovery from Tile Drainage.”  Congratulation!

- BIOsem group received a grant from The New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) as part of an inaugural Student and Faculty Research Program: Food Spoilage Mitigation through Packaging.  

June

- A group of professors including Dr. Silvana Andreescu received a grant from the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) to design new advanced adsorbent materials to remove toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from groundwater. Congratulation to all!

- On June 2nd, Mohamed Hassan successfully defended his PhD thesis: "Metal-organic materials: Integration in wearable electronics, sensing and remediation technologies".  Congratulation Dr. Hassan!

May

- Our novel approach of sensitive PFOS detection introduced by Dr. Silvana Andreescu was highlighted together with similar work from few other groups by Britt E. Erickson in C&EN

- Tosin was selected to attend the the prestigious Green Chemistry Summer School 2023 at the Colorado School of Mines, program sponsored by ACS, ACS Petroleum Research Fund, and the ACS Green Chemistry Institute. Congratulation Tosin!  

April

- The Recognition Day at Clarkson brought three awards to the group: Mohamed Hassan: The Outstanding Graduate Student Award, Ethan Locke: The Stig E. Friberg Award for Undergraduate Research, and Dominic Grinnell: The Dr. George Jones Jr. Memorial Scholarship Award. Congratulation guys!

- The poster of Ivy Dong, an undergraduate student in BIOsem group, featuring the lactate sensing won the 2nd place in health science poster competition at The Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) conference, held in Lake George, NY. Good job Ivy!

- The work from BIOsem group was recognized with three awards at the Spring Research and Projects Showcase (RAPS) meeting: Abd-ur: the best graduate poster presentation, Emily: the best graduate oral presentation, and Reem: the best commercialization potential project.  Congratulation!

- Tyler Bechard is the recipient of the best undergraduate oral presentation in chemistry and physics at the 13th Annual Symposium of ACS-Northern NY Local Section. Congratulation Tyler!

- Reem Khan received the Young Environmental Chemist Award, given by the American Chemical Society. Congratulation Reem!

- On Feb 15th, Aaditya Deshpande successfully defended his PhD thesis: "Development and characterization of electrochemical biosensors for oxidative stress monitoring and biomarker detection".  Congratulation Dr. Deshpande!
